WHITE PLAINS, NY (September 30, 2008) – Pace Law School’s 14th Annual Leadership Awards Dinner will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2008, at the Rye Town Hilton, 699 Westchester Avenue, Rye Brook, New York. The Distinguished Service Award will be presented to three outstanding members of the legal community: Vernon J. Brown of V. Brown & Company, Inc.; and Robert B. Marcus and Steven J. Schwartzapfel of Schwartzapfel Truhowsky Marcus P.C.
Vernon J. Brown, Esq., CPA, chairman and CEO of V. Brown & Company, Inc., began his career in the entertainment industry representing such innovative hip-hop groups as Public Enemy and the platinum selling R&B group Surface. He has established himself as one of the entertainment industry’s leading business managers by representing such artists as the late rapper Notorious BIG, Public Enemy, urban soul singer D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Brian McKnight, and the Cash Money Records Empire. Brown launched V. Brown & Company, Inc., in 1992, a business/ personal financial management company located in New York City. Brown’s knowledge, experience, leadership and clients range far and wide in all areas of entertainment and sports. Vernon represents fashion models including Jessica Stam, Marisa Miller, Miranda Kerr, and Coco Rocha; sports stars such as Allan Houston, Charlie Ward, Ty Law, and Michael Redd; as well as recording artists, film producers, and actors.
A graduate of the City College of New York, Brown is a licensed Certified Public Accountant. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Pace Law School and is admitted to the New York and New Jersey bars. He is also an adjunct professor at Pace Law School where he currently teaches Entertainment Law.
Robert B. Marcus is the senior litigation partner at Schwartzapfel Truhowsky Marcus P.C. His legal practice is concentrated in the area of personal injury with a special emphasis on construction site and mass tort litigation. He was selected for the New York Super Lawyers List in 2006, 2007, and 2008. Marcus has been a fellow of the American Bar Foundation since 2007, recently was named one of the 2007 Top 100 Trial Lawyers by The American Trial Lawyers Association and is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. Marcus has lectured on numerous topics including the New York State labor law, construction site litigation, and an annual state-wide conference for Court of Claims clerks. He also has been accorded the Martindale-Hubbell AV Rating.
Marcus is a 1979 graduate of Pace Law School, its first class. While at the Law School, he was a member and associate editor of the Pace Law Review from 1978-1979, as well as a member of the Moot Court Board. Consistent with his dedication to justice and his passion for protecting the rights of those who need it most, he has been on the Board of Directors of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association since 2001 and the Academy of New York State Trial Lawyers since 2006.
Steven J. Schwartzapfel is the founding member of Schwartzapfel Truhowsky Marcus P.C., one of the most prominent and well respected plaintiff’s personal injury law firms in New York. He has been a member, director, officer, and past president-elect of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, and currently serves as a director emeritus. Schwartzapfel served as the first president of the Alliance for Consumer Rights and is also a founding member, director, and first vice president of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers. He has served on the Judicial Screening committees for the Supreme Court, Appellate Division, and New York Court of Appeals, in addition to serving on the Committee on Professional Discipline. He has been awarded the prestigious AV rating in Martindale-Hubbell, recently named to the 2008 New York Super Lawyers List and selected one of the 2007 Top 100 Trial Lawyers by the American Trial Lawyers Association.
Schwartzapfel attended the State University of New York at Buffalo where he earned his B.A. degree with honors in 1977, and graduated from Pace Law School’s second class in 1980.
