Pace Law School Professor Darren Rosenblum, a scholar of lesbian and gay rights, is available to speak to the media about the Obama Administration’s decision to end its defense in court of the Defense of Marriage Act.
Professor Rosenblum has taught courses on Sexuality, Gender and the Law at the University of Pennsylvania and Fordham Law Schools as well as at Pace Law School, and has published many scholarly articles on lesbian and gay rights.
Professor Rosenblum’s take on the Obama Administration’s announcement today:
“Under much pressure from constitutional scholars and activists, the Obama Administration finally agreed to drop its defense to the successful court challenge of Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as a man and a woman. Many states already allow same-sex marriages and with DOMA, the federal government improperly intruded on state decisions about marriage. The Attorney General’s statement reflects widespread agreement among scholars that lesbian and gay people deserve heightened protection under the constitution, which DOMA violates.”
