Prof. John Nolan was quoted in The Times Herald–Record article, “Changes in Beacon alter development,” in regards to his expertise in sustainable development and his involvement in the Beacon, Metro-North Railroad transit-oriented development project.
In 2002, Metro-North partnered with the Beacon to make the historically ‘green’ city its first location for transit-oriented development. Nine years later, after changes in the community, city council and Metro North’s development plan, the project has come to a stand still.
“Its a long process,” says Prof. Nolan, who was brought on as a project adviser to Beacon. “And ideally, for continuity and order, you need a constituency for sustainable development, a group of people who will stand behind good ideas over time.”
