Professor Ralph Stein spoke to the Journal News about a battle being waged in New Rochelle between a local political blogger and the City Council members whose names the blogger has registered as domain names.
According to the Journal News, “Typing Councilman Barry Fertel’s name into a web browser, as in ‘www.barryfertel.com,’ brings you directly to Cox’s blog. The same is true for council members Marianne Sussman, Albert Tarantino and Louis Trangucci.”
Stein tells the Journal News that the practice is legal and protected by the First Amendment.
But, he adds, “Anytime you lead a person to believe they’re going somewhere and you lead them somewhere else, I have a personal ethical problem with that… But the law is not decided on my personal ethics.”
