Prof. Robert F. Kennedy was a guest on The Colbert Report to discuss the practice of mountaintop removal mining (MTR). The practice of MTR involves blowing up portions of mountains to make access to coal cheaper for mining companies. Prof. Kennedy, a longtime advocate against MTR, discussed with Colbert the environment implications of MTR, including the vast destruction of mountain ranges in the Appalachians, as well as the poisoning of the environment of mountain communities with toxic debris.
Prof. Kennedy also discussed his upcoming film on the same topic, “The Last Mountain”
