Prof. Rosenblum on marriage equality in NY:

“A majority of the citizens of New York support marriage equality. There’s also evidence that a majority of the state Senate also supports it. It’s now a question of whether the Republicans are going to play with procedural rules to undermine this civil rights shift.

Historically, opponents of marriage equality have claimed that legalizing same-sex marriage was the realm of the legislature, rather than the courts. They criticized other states, like Iowa, that achieved marriage equality through judicial action.  Now some argue this can only happen through a referendum.

They clearly are seeking to forestall marriage equality, which I think even they know will eventually happen.”
