Professor Bennett Gershman commented on the mistrial in the case against Dewey & Le Boeuf LLP and its impact upon Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. and his efforts to address corporate crime. As noted in “Bloomberg BNA”, the Dewey case was Vance’s third failed case this year. Prof. Gershman is a former prosecutor in the Manhattan district attorney’s office.
“It’s a huge blow to his tenure as DA,” Prof. Gershman is quoted as saying. “I have a lot of respect for him as a person and he’s responsible and he’s professional. It just seems that he’s made some bad calls in some of the cases that he’s decided to invest a huge amount of resources in.”
