NPR quotes Prof. Garfield in story about NYS AG investigating Exxon Mobil

In its coverage of the steps taken by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to investigate whether Exxon Mobil lied about its knowledge of the effects of climate change, National Public Radio spoke with Professor Leslie Garfield. The story examines whether the company misled the public and its shareholders about the impact of fossil fuels on the environment in order to avoid risking profits.

Noting that New York State law allows the attorney general broad authority to investigate financial fraud, Professor Garfield is quoted as saying: “If [the attorneys general] are successful with one company, it could be like a domino effect and be successful with many others.”
