In his column that appears in the “Dallas Morning News,” writer James Ragland quoted Professor Michael Mushlin, an expert on prisoner’s rights and prison reform. Coinciding with the 45th anniversary of the Attica Prison uprising, the column explores the state of our country’s prison systems and asks if we consider the prisons to be places for punishment or for rehabilitation.
“A lot of attention is now beginning to be focused on our prison system,” Professor Mushlin is quoted as saying. “That’s a healthy development. And that’s coming from both the left and the right. We really have a problem in our prisons and this is reflective of that.”
