Dean Emeritus Richard Ottinger is quoted in the WNYC story, “Bloomberg backs Indian Point nuclear plant.”

Dean Emeritus Richard Ottinger shared his opinion on the potential risks associated with the location of the Indian Point Nuclear Plant. The facility, which is located on the Ramapo fault line, and another recently discovered fault line, has come under heavy scrutiny following the nuclear disasters in Japan after the county was hit by massive earthquakes.

“From the time it was built, I felt that construction of a nuclear plant on a seismic fault at Indian Point was a serious mistake in judgment,” Dean Ottinger says. “The tragedy in Japan confirms that opinion. While the chances of a major accident of the kind being experienced in Japan are slight, the Indian Point plant has been plagued with numerous mishaps and errors of judgment.”

Prof. Bennett Gershman quoted in WAMC article, “Debate over funeral protests now at state, local level.”

Prof. Bennett Gershman offered his opinion on the recently past New York State Senate bill regarding protests outside military funerals. The new bill, which aims to build of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on funeral protests, calls for a 500 foot buffer zone for protests at military funerals, the receipt of a permit to protest, and the posting of a public security bond, ranging from $5,000 and up, which would be refunded if protesters complied with regulations issued within the permit.

Prof. Gershman’s only concern is whether or not the new bill seeks to to single out certain outspoken groups, for example, the Westboro Baptist Church.
